As has been answered earlier in the thread, Windows 7 doesn't support 3.0 devices natively. There are third-party hacks and drivers, but nothing official from Microsoft, so that's why they don't work. If you put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer, then they drop back to USB 2.0 mode and work just fine.
